  • Cop26, stop deforestation.
What if fashion brands also start now?

The agreement on deforestation at the Cop26 in Glasgow is certainly a step forward for the protection of the environment and trees. Seven years after the New York agreement, signed by 40 countries, in Glasgow were 114 nations that have committed, even economically, to recover damaged land, manage fires and support communities living in the forests.

A 19.2 billion dollar agreement, one of the few that has agreed so many states, which also involves Brazil, with its Amazon, and Russia, which is home to the largest forests in the world, and which provides for the stop to deforestation by 2030.

The link between this agreement and the world of textiles and fashion is soon made and also concerns the commitment that can put in field the big of the sector: use resources that do not harm the environment, all the more directly, as can be the cutting of a tree. It is a commitment that Monvania confirms every year using viscose yarns from 100% cotton Linter pulp; RCS (Recycled Claim Standard) certificates. Unique quality of viscose that avoids using wood pulp (from any forest). This conscious choice allowed Monvania to save 790 tall trees, of average age of 40 years, from the cutting. Of course, the active involvement of brands - the most important part in offering a choice to increasingly conscious consumers - is an essential factor.

So that the stop to deforestation can begin immediately for all trees, for all forests.
